Bærum Montessori School (BMS) is a private school that was established in 1995 and is one of Norway's oldest Montessori schools. The school is run as a non-profit foundation. The school follows the “Curriculum for Montessori schools” which has been prepared by Montessori Norway and approved by the Directorate of Education.
At BMS, our goal is to cultivate curious minds and responsible citizens. We believe that Montessori education is best suited to prepare children and young people for the future and the tasks that await them in adulthood. Montessori pedagogy supports the student's development by giving the student freedom to make choices, be part of a community, and participate in meaningful work. We currently have 140 students between 1st-10th grade. The students are in mixed-age groups. The primary school is divided into four groups, two groups for children from 6-9 years and two groups for children from 9-12 years. The physical environment is prepared and adapted to the basic needs of children aged 6-12, including working with others exploring the universe and how everything is connected. The secondary school consists of a group of 48 young people aged 12-16. The secondary school pedagogy and the physical environment are adapted to the young people's needs for practical work, professional exploration, self-expression, and social community.
